The Sindh government has approved financial assistance of Rs 12.5 million (Rs 1.25 crore) under the Endowment Fund for 230 athletes. A spokesperson said the decision has been taken for the welfare of deserving and needy athletes in the province.
Sindh Secretary for Sports Munawar Ali Mahesar stated that, on the instructions of Sindh Sports Minister Sardar Muhammad Bakhsh Mahar, financial assistance is being provided every year under the Endowment Fund to eligible athletes of Sindh so they can stay associated with sports despite economic difficulties.
An annual meeting of the Endowment Fund Committee for the financial support of athletes in Sindh was held under the chairmanship of Secretary Sports Munawar Ali Mahesar. The meeting was attended by Director Sports Sindh Asad Ishaq, Sindh Olympic Association representatives Ahmed Ali Rajput and Asghar Baloch, Section Officer Ali Dino Gopang, and other members.
The meeting approved annual financial assistance for athletes across the province through the Endowment Fund. According to the Sports Department spokesperson, a total of 230 athletes will be given financial support of around Rs 12.5 million from the fund.
The spokesperson added that the recipients include about 30 widows of deceased athletes, and the applicants include athletes from hockey, football, boxing, kabbadi, malakhra (traditional wrestling), and other sports.
Secretary Sports Munawar Ali Mahesar said the Sindh government will continue providing financial help to sick, poor, and deserving athletes in the future as well. He further said that applications received for assistance under the Endowment Fund are granted after complete scrutiny by the committee.
He also said that if any athlete is suffering from a severe illness, or if the widows of deceased athletes wish to apply, they can submit their applications for financial assistance under the Endowment Fund.
